How I Came to the Cards
I began reading tarot in 2020, during a time when the world was unraveling. Like many, I found myself questioning old assumptions about life, society, and my own path. That year marked the beginning of a deeper search for meaning.
Here, I’m holding the Ace of Swords, The Chariot, and The World. Together, they symbolize a bold new beginning, driven by will, aligned with destiny, and rising from the close of a major life cycle. That’s where I am now.
What started as a personal journey soon led me to the cards. From the beginning, it felt less like I chose tarot and more like tarot chose me. The symbolism spoke directly to what I was living through. The more I studied, the more I worked with the cards, the more I came to understand how freaky accurate they were.
The number of ‘hits’ I got encouraged me to probe further and study harder. Seeking to expand my abilities, I started doing card readings for other people. These were not paying clients. They were friends, colleagues, students, my wife’s friends and colleagues, and the occasional acquaintance who expressed interest.
The hits kept coming. The more cards I drew and the more spreads I set out, the more confirmation came to me that I was on to something. What amazed me wasn’t merely that the cards were speaking to me. It was the way they spoke to my clients through me.
I have experienced some remarkable moments in my tarot readings, but one memory in particular stands out. I was doing a reading for a woman who asked for a general reading about her life. She had asked no questions and had given me no indication of what she was most concerned about. I looked at the spread, then looked up at her. I asked “Do you have a boyfriend?” She answered “Yes.” I then asked if she and he were talking about breaking up. She instantly broke down into tears.
My wife was there and she came running over, wanting to know what had happened. I pointed to the spread and she asked “How did you know from those cards that she was going to break up?” I explained, and she understood. It was a combination of the cards’ formal meanings in their respective positions… and intuition. From that moment on, I knew I had the kind of intuition that could make me a top-drawer tarot reader.
Becoming a Tarot Reading Professional
The rest, as they say, is history.
I have been reading tarot cards for clients since 2021. After much study and practice, and after having used tarot cards for my own personal introspection and decision making, I decided to start offering my services on a professional basis.
I have done many things in my life. I have been a filmmaker, an English teacher, a writer, a scuba instructor, an organic farmer and a professional photographer. I still do some of those things and I enjoy them. But I have never felt ‘called’ to anything the way I feel called to tarot cards.
The cards have assured me I have much to offer and that I also have much to gain. They have told me that I need to approach this venture from the standpoint of humble service. However, they are vague about where my journey into professional tarot reading will end up.
Where this journey will go from here is anyone’s guess.
